If you’re looking for a stamp of approval on your cuisine, there are few better places to get one than Italy. And this Toronto restaurant, nestled high atop the skyline, received exactly that. In addition to a Michelin star, countless other awards and tons of fanfare, Don Alfonso 1890 is now one of only three Canadian restaurants to receive its latest global accolade.
About Don Alfonso 1890’s latest honour
For another year, the Michelin-starred contemporary Italian fine dining destination located on the 38th floor of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel has been named among the top three in the Best Italian Restaurant in the World 2024 category by Top 50 Italy.
“This prestigious award is truly the greatest accolade we could receive,” said Nick Di Donato, president and CEO of Liberty Entertainment Group and operator of Don Alfonso 1890. “To be named in the top three restaurants on the world stage is not only a supreme honour for us, but it is also a testament to the city of Toronto and its maturing dining scene to be recognized as best in class on the international stage.”

Di Donato and Chef de Cuisine Davide Ciavattella received the accolade at an event in Milan, Italy, where their work was praised alongside eateries in Paris and Tokyo for offering some of the best Italian fare outside of Italy.
“The Don Alfonso of Toronto, a constant presence in our guide, continues to stand out as an Italian point of reference in the suggestive Canadian location,” Top 50 Italy writes. “The management of the Iaccarino family has undertaken a path of change with the new chef Davide Ciavattella, without distorting the original concept but introducing a touch of novelty. Breathtaking views of the skyline and Toronto harbor add allure to a dining experience that blends the chefs’ culinary roots with local influences.”
Don Alfonso 1890 is located at 1 Harbor Square and reservations can be made online.
